Carbis joins in the opening of a new oil field in South Texas
Several of the top energy producing companies are investing billions of dollars on domestic production of crude through new drilling methods in south Texas. Industry experts are stating this effort will help reverse a two-decade decline. Industry analysts are reporting that the yield from these fields could help reduce the US oil imports by as much as 50%.
The recent success of this new drilling effort is leading energy producers searching for solutions to bring new production of crude and natural gas to market safely and as efficiently as possible. The drive in south Texas is similar to efforts being made in North Dakota, Colorado, and California. Carbis Incorporated, partnering with an international energy-engineering firm, completed a project for a five-tank truck loading facility. “Our scope was to design, engineer, and fabricate a system to load five 180 barrel (7560 gallon) liquid tank trucks simultaneously within 30 minutes”, shared Chris Roark, the Carbis lead on this project.
Carbis, a leader in the fall prevention, bulk loading industry, is headquartered out of Florence, South Carolina. Carbis designs and fabricates solutions for accessing and loading/unloading truck, rail cars, barges, ships and other areas requiring an engineered solution. These solutions include items such as crossovers, access ramps (gangways), safety cages, platforms, loading arms, ship towers and ship/barge access systems. Neal Sears, local Carbis Representative for South Texas, states, “Carbis’ solutions drive productivity in addition to providing safety for workers accessing elevated structures, vehicles and equipment. Each solution is customized to meet our client’s unique application requirements.”
Carbis’ participation with the south Texas project included the design and fabrication of a five-lane tank truck bottom-loading terminal. This state of the art truck terminal solution included a five bay canopy covered loading station, loading skids with grounding systems, metering systems, and bottom loading arms (throughCarbis’ loading arm division). This system integrated with customer’s onsite PLC and gate access for a completely networked operation with room for expansion. The loading skid system included all the necessary equipment for the custody transfer of crude oil.
Carbis’ Reliability Flexibility Guarantee provides clients with a self-imposed forfeiture in the event Carbis is late on two milestones (approval drawings and equipment shipping). The ability for small changes to occur without necessarily affecting the project’s timeline is the flexibility benefit many companies are experiencing. Carbis’ Vice President of Sales/Marketing, Pete Singleton says, “Carbis is focusing its efforts on reliability. Reliability allows our clients to experience the investment returns they are seeking. Whether the initiative starts as a safety driven project or a simple replacement there are always throughput (revenue) opportunities. Carbis’ solutions look to maintain and/or increase product throughput while providing protection giving the site a complete solution.” It was reported to us that the reason Carbis was awarded the south Texas project was based on Carbis’ commitment to maintaining the project schedule through the Reliability Flexibility Guarantee.
